Food City

Purpose

You need more and more food as you shift focus towards military.  A full zerk castle requires 75k/hr food, a full knight castle can eat up to 150k/hr.

Examples

The maximum food/hr a food city can produce is a little over 174k/hr, and it looks like this.  This would require that you have a landlocked city surrounded by plains (not mountains, hills or forests.)  This will give you the maximum amount of lakes, which is 10.  The lakes will also need to be in exact positions of the layout.   You may notice that there are no purification or shipping mechanism, which is not realistic of an actual food city.

Typical food cities will look something like the examples below.  These are 3 of my actual food cities.  The first 2 are landlocked, the third is a water city, which understandably, produces less than the other two.

How to build

The city below is a typical layout of a food city without any lakes.  This guarantees production of 143k/hr.  If your food city produces less than 143k/hr, you must have a mistake somewhere.  Add in lakes and modify a bit to get over 150k.  It takes practice to get the optimal layout.  If you are not sure, post a comment and i'll try to optimize your food city.

Layout: http://bit.ly/pAb8ZX

  1. Demo all natural resources except lakes
  2. Upgrade townhall to lvl 4
  3. Build 40 temp cottages and upgrade to about lvl 6 or 7
  4. Upgrade townhall to lvl 10
  5. Build out your city, make sure to include the marketplace and moonglow tower
  6. Once all permanent buildings are at lvl 10, demo the temp cottages and replace with a permanent building

  1. If you are going to make a blog about how to do city layouts then you should do it correctly, your layouts are wrong. assuming bad water and or no water placements your ideal max city uses 25 buildings per outer block and produces a bit over 25500 food per outerblock with a good and or correct city lay out I am at 27895 food per hour with no water used. Also i have only used 22 building slots to do it,. I would be happy to post up how it is done but i will do so on a free forum, why should i help you make money. you have ad words running here.

  2. Here's the link to mine. The auto building only gave me around 143k but this city has lakes, so I know it should give more. Let me know what you can come up with; Im trying to support 1 zerk city and 1 ranger city.

Generally, water cities will produce less than landlocked locations. Considering this is a water city, it's still pretty good.

  12. Hi,

Here's a typical food city of water. It guarantees 141k food/hour. It should be more once you add in lakes.

Sorry this took a long time. I have a full time job now so finding spare time to write my blog is more difficult then before.

I keep your warehouses and markets, even though I generally play with only one moonglow tower and 1 market.

    1. You should try making a city by yourself first. I don't sit around making food cities all day.

  18. Hi, I have a water city with 7 lakes and using Flash city planner 2, I only get about 140k food per hour. Could you have a look at it and let me know what's wrong? I'd appreciate it...

    1. you didn't follow the layout guide. Your farms are all over the place. You still have resource nodes other than lakes. Some farms don't have a mill next to them.

This is what I would do

    2. Don't use the flash planner to plan food cities, use the layout examples and spend 5 minutes to build your own.

    3. Thanks a lot! I took your advice, and didn't use the flash planner this time. I was barely able to touch 150k, even after looking at all of your layouts you've given in the comments :(

Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong? I feel like an idiot for asking the second time ;(

Sometimes you're just unlucky with lake placements. I was able to improve it by 4k, but still can't get it to 150k. That's just how it is.
